Planning Spring Break looked a little different for us this year as family. With everything going on right now, heading out of town was not an option for us. But this didn’t mean we still couldn’t have a little fun over the break!
If you aren’t able to make any vacation plans, one of the best ways you can entertain the kids is to explore different places in your own backyard!

Over our break we ventured over to Tempe, Arizona and visited the Desert Botanical Garden of Phoenix. The weather was perfect outside to spend the day walking along all the trails and enjoying the beautiful desert plants and landscape!

Made a fun challenge for the kids too while we were there and we had our own little Desert Themed Scavenger Hunt. I gave them a list of different types of cacti and had them snap photos on their phones when they spotted them throughout the garden. First one to complete their list won!!! Their favorite from the list was the Old Man Cactus which literally looked like a hairy little old man!

The Desert Botanical Garden is open from 8am-8pm Monday through Sunday and requires guests to purchase passes in advance and wear a mask throughout the garden.

Next we hopped on over to Kiwanis Lake to try our hand at some fun pedal boats. Originally I had planned to take the huge duck boats out for a spin but the wind was too high so we played it safe since we had the kids with us.

The kids had an absolute blast pedaling around in these boats and exploring the lake!! They even got to steer the pedal boats and drive us around for a change. Loved that the kids also got some energy out and a little bit of exercise too. Definitely a nice break from all the screen time!

You can click this link here to make reservations. Make sure to wear sunscreen and comfortable shoes to pedal the boats around. They also have bikes and kayaks for rent as well. All their rentals are sanitized and cleaned in between each use and they provide life jackets for the kids too!
